Fashion Week Smackdown
Catwalk? More like Catfight. This year’s presentations have barely finished and already the drama surrounding Fall Fashion Week 2012 is reaching a fever pitch. Milan has announced dates that directly conflict with New York and London fashion weeks, even as editors from American Vogue, French Vogue and, um, Italian Vogue have pledged not to attend. In the face of this, Mario Boselli (head of Italy’s Camera Nazionale della Moda) has told WWD “let the best one win.” Meanwhile, CFDA President Diane von Furstenberg penned a thoughtful yet firm open letter to the industry in the hopes this issue might be resolved to everyone’s benefit.

Cinema Buzz: New York Film Festival
The 49th annual New York Film Festival is well underway, bringing cinema-buffs an impressive slate of projects. The fest is rife with NYC talent (notably Martin Scorsese, who helmed the stirring documentary George Harrison: Living in the Material World), and is also showing a plethora of films by acclaimed international directors. Must-sees include Lars Von Trier’s Melancholia (starring Kirsten Dunst who won the Best Actress award at Cannes for her performance), Wim Wenders’s thrilling dance film Pina (for which he made revolutionary use of 3D technology), and British artist Steve McQueen’s highly-anticipated sophomore film, Shame. Run by the Film Society of Lincoln Center, the NYFF is on through October 16th.

The Uggly Truth
As if wearing Uggs wasn't a crime in itself (fashionably speaking, of course), a new video that is too horrible for words is making the rounds on the Internet, proving that the greater crime is wearing knockoffs. This time the offenders are the manufacturers of fake Uggs, and they are guilty of skinning raccoon dogs alive for their fur. Unfortunately, because the animals are not categorized as dogs, there is no law to stop the boots from selling in markets such as the UK. We hope that in the face of such inhumane cruelty, there is reason to reconsider. Watch the video here, but be warned: it's not for the faint of heart.

In Development
To the delight of die-hard fans everywhere who have been longing to be reunited with the Bluth family, there is hope after all. This past Sunday, Arrested Development’s ensemble cast and its creator Mitchell Hurwitz came together in a rare moment at The New Yorker Festival. It was there that they dropped hints that a mini comeback of ten episodes leading up to a movie was in the works. Later that night, Jason Batemen tweeted that it was all, in fact, true. Time will tell.

Shining Stars
Opened last Friday in Tribeca, jewelry designer Irene Neuwirth’s pop-up shop is as glitzy and creative as the baubles it houses. The temporary digs, boasting metal lattice work with etched stars and a living wall, are the result of Neuwirth’s collaboration with BOFFO, the art and culture nonprofit. Neuwirth’s creations, which are favorites among celebrities like Reese Witherspoon and Iman, will be on display for two weeks at 57 Walker Street.

Wag of the finger
Anna Wintour is unhappy with the state of affairs in Italy and she’s pointing her finger at the country’s prime minister Sylvio Berlusconi. In an interview in Saturday’s La Republicca Newspaper, Vogue Editor-in-Chief said she was “disgusted and embarrassed” by “Silvio Berlusconi and his bevy of girls” and accused his government of corruption, saying it was “in effect a dictatorship.” She also suggested that the fashion world take advantage of Milan's fashion week to rise up against the politician.

Art Agenda - NYC
Visual art and music collide at Tribeca’s RH Gallery, with their current exhibition Melodymania. The group show explores the widespread experience of having a song stuck in your head, and includes works by renowned contemporary artists such as Matthew Barney, Yi Zhou and Yoshitomo Nara. Many of the pieces seem to exude melodies themselves, while portraits of Bob Dylan, Kurt Cobain and portraits of Lady Gaga performing, truly capture the essence of their musical styles. Melodymania runs through October 29th.
